  • Tell us about yourself! Did you graduate from A&M-Central Texas?
  • My name is Hannah Baratang. I am living in San Marcos and pursuing a master’s degree in biology, with a focus on Education and Visual Representations. I graduated from TAMUCT in December of 2020, and I majored in Organismal Biology.

  • Tell us about your time at A&M-Central Texas
  • I loved the close-knit community and the opportunity to have one-on-one time with the professors. I spent a lot of time in organizations such as Science Club and Blue Coat Ambassadors, which allowed me to create friendships and gain experience in various fields. I also worked as a lab assistant, which allowed me to put into practice skills that I had learned in my classes.

My favorite part was the people. Everyone I had the pleasure of meeting was so kind and willing to help others reach their goals. I also loved the access to nature! Being able to take a break outside in between classes and hike Bald Knob anytime I wanted was a huge plus. My reason for attending TAMUCT was the proximity to my hometown. I was able to stay with my parents while also pursuing my education! It was also convenient to transfer from CTC to finish my bachelor’s degree. My advisor had my best interests in mind and always encouraged me to do good things for my education and my future.

  • Tell us about any work (past or present) that you are proud of.
  • Hannah BaratangSince graduating from TAMUCT, I was accepted into a master’s program at Texas State University. I have had the opportunity to assist on a variety of research projects, both in the lab and in the field. In the summer of 2022, I went to Ecuador for a month and did herpetological surveys in the cloud forest! I’ve also been teaching genetics labs every semester since (going on 3 years). This past summer, I taught a Wildlife Management lab and got to go on a camping trip to Mason Mountain WMA. I’ve since gained even more skills in communication, writing, bioinformatics, networking, and even event planning!

  • Tell us anything else you’d like to share!
  • If you take initiative at TAMUCT, you have the opportunity to launch yourself into almost any career you can imagine. I want to encourage anyone who’s curious to explore what interests them, because everyone should get to do something they love.
