Jaymie Collins
- Tell us about yourself!
My name is Jaymie Collins, and I graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences at TAMUCT in May 2020 with a BS in Biology, a biotechnology concentration and a minor in chemistry. I then got accepted into veterinary school at Lincoln Memorial University and started in January 2023.
- Tell us about your time at A&M-Central Texas? Choosing to be a part of this program has prepared me in more ways than one for my future. When I first applied, I was not sure what I could do with this degree, but I soon realized that you could do almost anything in the science field. The advisors were very helpful in showing me what classes I needed to take and when to take them to begin the biotechnology program. The head of the department took the time to meet with me and put together my graduation plan which took the stress off me. One of the great attributes about this program is that the class sizes are small, so it feels like personalized instruction. The professors were always available and happy to answer any questions or set up meeting times for extra help. They really focus on their student’s success in the class but also outside of school in their personal lives and jobs. The different courses challenged me to use what I had learned in lecture in the lab which gave a well-rounded education and reinforced the content.
- Tell us anything else you’d like to share! I want to personally thank Dr. Erlandson and Dr. Pham. I have used almost everything I learned during my time in the program at TAMUCT in vet school today. Each class gave me the confidence and ability to continue in academics and apply to graduate programs with the knowledge that I have prepared and will succeed in my career. Making the choice to attend the biotechnology program was one of the best decisions I have made. I could not recommend more for prospective students to apply to this program and build a successful future for themselves.
