The University Writing Center has a variety of tutors on staff to help you with your overall writing process and various writing assignments/tasks.



Tutor Biographies


  • Skyler

    Phyllis

    • Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Arts at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) and her Masters in English from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. She loves taking writiers through the process and watching them grow as they go from paper to paper. She is especially good at asking questions that let the writer talk through what they know before actually working with the writing. In her free time, Phyllis watches every Hallmark movie on TV. She calls herself a Hallmark junkie.

  • Skyler

    Rachel

    • Rachel received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and her master’s degree in English from Texas A&M University-Central Texas. Her writing has appeared in various blogs, newspapers, and literary journals. Rachel has a passion for anything that has to do with writing and language, and she loves being able to help other writers navigate each stage of the writing process. When tutoring, Rachel enjoys helping students organize their thoughts, but she really loves working on the more technical side of writing, such as grammar, punctuation, and MLA citations. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading, crocheting, and listening to true crime podcasts––always with her cat on her lap.

  • Maggie

    • Maggie is working towards her B.A. in English at Texas A&M University–Central Texas with a Minor in Anthropology. After graduating in Spring 2024, Maggie hopes to use her knowledge for a career in technical writing. She has an outstanding history in the creative arts but flourishes in an environment where she can assist all learners from different backgrounds in becoming their greatest selves; she finds that displaying encouragement and expansion upon students’ current abilities to be the best tutoring practice she has conducted, and she is always exploring new and fun ways to piece together thoughts onto paper. While Maggie enjoys the often puzzling challenges of writing, she also relishes the very minimal free time she has outside of her studies. When she is not nosing her head in a book or tapping away at her laptop, Maggie can be found working her second job at a local, family-owned coffee shop and collecting Disney memorabilia. Her other favorite pastimes have been building Legos (specifically the botanical sets) with her boyfriend and collecting Funko Pops.

  • Whitney

    Whitney

    • Whitney is an undergraduate student at Texas A&M University-Central Texas, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in Sociology. She has also been a published author for over 10 years, with more than two dozen romance and young adult titles under her belt. As a writer, she enjoys crafting complelling narratives around the subject at hand, and constantly seeks to improve on her craft. She believes that writing is a skill that anyone can learn, because all it takes is practice and patience. When working with student writiers, Whitney excels at brainstorming and organization, improving sentence structure, gathering and incorporating research, and ASA and APSA styles. Outside of her work as a tutor, Whitney spends her time writing and reading, practicing yoga, gardening (flowers, fruit, veggies), and corralling three rambunctious  kids and two wild dogs.

  • Mindy

    • Mindy is a current student at Texas A&M University–Central Texas pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work with a minor in English. She enjoys helping students develop and organize their thoughts into a clear, concise, and professional presentation as these skills are important in all of areas academic and professional life. While she can help you with any writing format, she is most comfortable with APA. When not attending to her own studies or working in the writing center, Mindy is a professional reading tutor who best loves working with neurodiverse clients.

    • Skyler received her B.S. in Psychology from Texas A&M University-Central Texas and is further pursuing education at Capella University. During her academic career, she has always enjoyed writing and helping others explore topics, so everyone learns something. Skyler enjoys various aspects of writing. Examples include brainstorming, organizing information, and finding that perfect sentence that pulls everything together. She believes in nurturing creativity while finding a way to mold it for different goals when necessary. Skyler works academically with APA-style writing but is open to assisting others with anything they need for their assignments. She enjoys reading non-fiction and is slowly working on her own story.

  • Allissa

    Pamela

    • Pamela received her B.S. in Psychology from Texas A&M University-Central Texas and is pursuing an M.A. in Sociology at Texas State University. She also has experience writing about Anthropology, in which she minored at both programs. She feels that writing is for everyone and can be personally transformative and a vehicle for self-discovery. Discussion of the writing process and sharing the joys and struggles of academic writing with students are activities Pamela relishes. Her strengths include research skills, navigating technologoical tools and APA and ASA styles. Outside the classroom, Pamela enjoys reading fantasy novels while sipping herbal tea alongside her cat. She also enjoys creative writing in her free time.

  • Allissa

    Allissa

    • Allissa is a current student at Texas A&M University-Central Texas pursuing a B.A. in English with a minor in secondary education. She enjoys writing because it can be used in a wide variety of contexts and is essential in most fields. Allissa adores learnng about new topics with students and thrives at making sure papers are cohesive and understandable through discussing organizational srategies. However, she also likes to help with MLA citations and identifying punctuation or grammar errors. If Allissa is not at the UWC, she is probably at home crocheting and watching documentaries.

  • Manuel

    • Manuel received his B.A. in English from Texas A&M University–Central Texas and is working on his M.A. in English from the same institution. He has also started a career in technical writing for the Applied Research Laboratories at The University of Texas at Austin. Manuel loves writing because of how versatile it is and how he is able to express himself through words on paper. Manuel can help with a variety of writing concerns, but he is most helpful in developing ideas and brainstorming with students. Manuel is a semi-accomplished songwriter and has published poetry online in literary magazines.

  • Amanda

    • Amanda is an undergraduate psychology major on a mission to earn a bachelor’s degree before her son finishes high school in 2025. She discovered her love for writing early in life, and even wrote articles for a few local Central Texas newspapers when she first joined the workforce. For the past 15 years, she has continued to lean into storytelling and writing by building training programs for businesses. She sees writing as a way for people to tell their stories, sharing their knowledge and experiences with others, which ultimately helps us all learn and grow. Amanda will help with any goals you have for your writing, with particular emphasis on helping you write in an authentic voice while aligning to academic expectations. Outside of the University Writing Center, Amanda enjoys hiking.

  • Maria

    • Maria will receive her B.A. in English with a minor in Linguistics and Communications by the end of the Spring 2024 semester. She loves writing because it is accessible to anyone, and it helps to develop critical thinking skills. Therefore, Maria is most helpful to students in developing ideas and creating a cohesive sentence structure. On her days off, Maria can be found either writing her own stories or reading from a variety of genres.

  • Donna

    • Donna is a history major who will graduate in the spring of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree. She has loved reading all her life and has won awards for writing both prose and poetry. She has worked with young children and adults in need of guidance with writing assignments and has a genuine interest in getting to know students and helping them on their path to success. She strongly believes in the concept that we are all in this together, learning and achieving goals with the cooperation and consideration of one another. When she isn’t writing, she is painting and has successfully sold her cloud paintings for many years.

  • Jessie

    Jessie

    • Jessie received her B.S. in Accounting from Texas A&M University–Central Texas and is currently working on her MBA with healthcare administration and human resources as an emphasis. She is vocal regarding her own challenges in writing, such as having dyslexia and dysgraphia, but she does not allow that to deter her from writing. She believes that anyone can become a good writer and loves encouraging students whenever they face a potential challenge. Jessie loves developing ideas, particularly in business, and providing a different perspective to students whenever possible. She has a thorough understanding of APA standards, use of academic research, and discovering solutions to uncommon issues. In her free time, Jessie is often working on her ranch with her dogs, cows, and numerous other farm animals.

  • Makenzie

    • Makenzie wil receive her B.A. in History from Texas A&M University-Central Texas at the end of the summer. Makenzie did not always like writing, however, once she took the time to develop good writng habits, she found a love for the process and hopes to help students find that same liking. Although Makenzie can help with each concern a student has over their paper, she excels in developing ideas as well as organizing a paper.  Additionally, Makenzie likes to spend her free time playing video games and snuggling her two cats.
