On Thursday, April 11th, more than 200 invited guests, dignitaries, donors, staff, and faculty, and students gathered to celebrate the initiation of construction on the university’s fourth building: the Centralized Operational Reliability and Efficiency (CORE) Building.

University officials welcomed and expressed their thanks for the local and state leaders who supported the funding for the building: Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp, A&M-Central Texas President Richard M. Rhodes, State Representative from District 54, Brad Buckley, and State Senator District 24, Pete Flores, representatives for U.S. Senator John Cornyn, Central Texas Regional Director, Jill Wayman and Deputy Regional Director for Abigail Hampton.

“This is an opportunity to both reflect and look forward,” noted President Rhodes. “Next month, the university celebrates our 15-year anniversary which makes the CORE Building a pretty great anniversary present.”

Chancellor Sharp applauded the university for its many accomplishments over the past 15 years, noting that as the university continues to grow, the economic strength of the county and region grows with it.

“The Texas A&M University System prides itself on practical solutions that better the lives of Texans everywhere,” he said. “A&M-Central Texas has been making a difference in the lives of its students every day since 2009 and will continue to do so for years to come. And the addition of this new building will make all future buildings and the completion of the campus possible.”

President Emeritus, Dr. Marc Nigliazzo, returned to campus to join the celebration and greeted those in attendance and reminded them of how far they have come.

“All of us here made a commitment to something that was unique,” he began. “And that spirit of innovation and collaboration didn’t just carry us through our challenges, it became the foundation for everything we accomplished in these first 15 years.

“Even more important is that spirit of innovation and collaboration will be what fuels our momentum for all the years to come.”
