A&M-Central Texas Student Government Planning a “Spook-tacular” Halloween Event

The summer weather has not yet yielded to the long-awaited cooler temperatures of the fall, but that hasn’t stopped A&M-Central Texas Student Government and the Office of Student Affairs from getting ready for a ‘spook-tacular’ event coming up next month.

Event organizers are hoping for a “fang-tastic” turnout for the 2022 Trunk or Treat, Friday, Oct. 28, from 6-8 p.m.

“Trunk or Treat is an event for the whole community,” said Paul York, associate dean of student affairs. “Last year, there were more than 300 people walking through the event and 40 cars all decorated in ‘eerie-sistable’ Halloween themes and quite a few of the cars’ owners got in the “spirit,” dressing up in their “boo-tique inspired costumes.”

This year, organizers are hoping to top last year’s attendance for both visitors and those who want to decorate their trunk and attend as a participant. And they are offering a $100 prize from the Student Government Association if their trunk decorations and costume prove them to be the “ghostest with the mostest.”

There is no cost for participants to register, York says. And, he added, more trunks mean more fun for the families and their children who are there to be “goblin up the treats” as they visit the campus to enjoy the event in a safe, but spooky, environment.

Local business – even those with a skeletal budget – shouldn’t be haunted by the cost of participating because the event is completely free.

“Each registered participant decorates the trunk space of their vehicle, including enough candy and give aways for visitors, he said. “If they like, we will provide a table to set up their Halloween treats and whatever business information they would like to share.”
