“Working with university officials and staff, the A&M-Central Texas Police Department selected the new phone app to coordinate safety resources for our university community, allowing quick police response to personal alarms and immediate notification to students of campus-wide alerts,“ said Lt. Charles Wilson III, interim university police lieutenant. “Our new smartphone application solution delivers on all counts, helping to safeguard the University’s students, faculty and staff.”

The SafeZone system allows students to get help from officers by activating an alert on their smartphones, Wilson said. The student’s location and user details are sent immediately to police dispatch personnel, who can coordinate resources to provide the necessary help. “The SafeZone app will initially be available to the more than 3,000 students and staff on our campus,” Wilson said, “and, in later stages, will be offered for our study aboard programs.”
